All our information concerning the names and lives of Sts.
Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary, is derived from apocryphal
literature, the Gospel of the Nativity of Mary, the Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew
and the Protoevangelium of James. Though the earliest form of the
latter, on which directly or indirectly the other two seem to be
based, goes back to about A.D. 150, we can hardly accept as beyond
doubt its various statements on its sole authority. In the Orient
the Protoevangelium had great authority and portions of it were
read on the feasts of Mary by the Greeks, Syrians, Copts, and Arabians.
In the Occident, however, it was rejected by the Fathers of the
Church until its contents were incorporated by Jacobus de Voragine
in his "Golden Legend" in the thirteenth century. From that time
on the story of St. Anne spread over the West and was amply developed,
until St. Anne became one of the most popular saints also of the
Latin Church. When on a feast day Joachim presented ...
Wars, kings, and politicians come and go, but love endures.
Bertie & Elizabeth charts one of the greatest love stories of
the century: the love affair between Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, a beautiful
fun-loving young woman from an aristocratic Scottish family and
the Duke of York, a shy young man second in line to the throne.
Married in 1923, they are thrust into the limelight in 1936 when
Bertie's older brother, Edward VIII, abdicates to marry the twice-divorced
American socialite Wallis Simpson. As George VI and Queen Elizabeth,
they inspire a nation. A superb British cast brings this memorable
story to life. James Wilby (Gosford Park) and Juliet Aubrey (Middlemarch)
portray the reluctant royals who become king and queen of England.
The film opens in 1920, when the dashing but diffident Bertie steals
a dance with the radiant 19-year-old Elizabeth. Their happy family
life with daughters Elizabeth and Margaret contrasts sharply with
the playboy lifestyle of the heir ...
Enslaved and recently severed from several members in his
family, who were "sold down the river" -- Allen took solace in his
belief that he would never be cut off from God's love. The life
of Richard Allen and the history of Mother Bethel are inextricably
linked -- he is the rock upon which the church was built. The pill
became more bitter after Sturgis sold Richard's mother and three
siblings. His sermon at the farm that day was based on Daniel 5:27,
the verse in which God's handwriting appears on the wall to Babylonian
King Belshazzar. The preacher with the remarkably apt Christian
name believed the sin of slaveholding was so onerous that on Judgment
Day all slave owners would be weighed and be found wanting. They
found in the first house they visited two children huddled with
their feverish father, their mother already a victim. Jones and
Allen found people to care for the children and tried to aid the
sick father. Then there was the constant struggle with trustees
at St. ...

Mother Earth may sustain the crops, but Mother Earth can
generate terrible forces--earthquakes, floods and volcanic eruptions.
The Great Mother not only pours her love out upon the earth, but
she also generates an image in our shadow, smothering, devouring,
implacable, too terrible to contemplate. This is the mother-love
which is one of the most moving and unforgettable memories of our
lives, the mysterious root of all growth and change; the love that
means homecoming, shelter, and the long silence from which everything
begins and in which everything ends. Mother is mother-love, my experience
and my secret. The attempt to say these things has always been made,
and probably always will be; but a sensitive person cannot in all
fairness load that enormous burden of meaning, responsibility, duty,
heaven and hell, on to the shoulders of one frail and fallible human
being--so deserving of love, indulgence, understanding, and forgiveness--who
was our mother. Jung, interested in ...

contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul. Let them look up

MOTHER, the term for the female parent of a child. mata points
to an original derivation from a stem ma, to measure, or make. Of
the many transferred applications of mother may be mentioned those
to the church, to nature, to the earth, and to a ci,ty or nation,
as the parent of other cities, nations, colonies, &c. As a title
~ mother is particularly applied to the head of a religious community
of women. For mother-of-pearl see PEARL. There is a particular application
of mother to the scum which rises to the surface of a liquor during
the process of fermentation, and also to a mass of gummy stringy
consistency formed in vinegar in the process of acetous fermentation,
hence known as mother of vinegar (see VINEGAR). But he had rivals
who knew how to inspire jealousy between him and the prince, and

closed a philological dispute by striking Motanabbl, in the very
presence of the prince and without rebuke from ...

In 1948, she came across a half-dead woman lying in front
of a Calcutta hospital. She stayed with the woman until she died.
From that point on, she dedicated the majority of her life to helping
the poorest of the poor in India, thus gaining her the name "Saint
of the Gutters." She founded an order of nuns called the Missionaries
of Charity in Calcutta, India dedicated to serving the poor. Almost
50 years later, the Missionaries of Charity have grown from 12 sisters
in India to over 3,000 in 517 missions throughout 100 countries
worldwide. It was there that they would care for the dying Indians
that were found on the streets. Mother would see Jesus in everyone
that she met. Over the last two decades, Mother had suffered from
heart problems. Mother Teresa was a living saint and she will be
greatly missed.

having a mother. This will be the family's first Mother's Day without
