It requires the most intense love on the mother's side, yet
this very love must help the child grow away from the mother and
become fully independent. - Erich Fromm A mother is the one through
whom God whispers love to His little children. A mother laughs our
laughs, sheds our tears, returns our love, fears our fears. She
lives our joys, cares our cares and all our hopes and dreams she
shares. A mother is a person who, seeing there are only four pieces
of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for
pie. There is no friendship, no love like that of the mother for
her child. A mother's love is forever; time, distance, hardship...
all fall before the strength of her love. Mom, I love you more than
you love me because you have only loved me for a part of your life
and I have loved you for all of mine. A mother loves her children
even when they least deserve to be loved. - Kate Samperi

Mother Meera is one of the most widely revered and loved
of the Avatars of the Divine Mother. Born on December 26, 1960,
in the village of Chandepalle in southern India, Mother Meera soon
showed herself to be an unusual child: by the age of three she would
report "going to various lights." Her parents treated Mother Meera
as an exceptional child and loved her very much. Mother Meera's
real parents were the spiritual guides that she met in vision; it
was from them that she received the love and help she needed. Under
the auspices of her uncle, Mr. Reddy, Mother Meera lived for some
time in Pondicherry where her extraordinary presence attracted considerable
attention. Mother Meera married a German in 1982; and he stays with
her. Mother Meera is worshipped as a Divine Mother in India. The
unique gift of Mother Meera to the world is to make available for
the first time in the history of the Earth the radically transformative

Julia Ward Howe's accomplishments did not end with the writing
of her famous poem, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." As Julia
became more famous, she was asked to speak publicly more often.
Her husband became less adamant that she remain a private person,
and while he never actively supported her further efforts, his resistance
eased. She failed in her attempt to get formal recognition of a
Mother's Day for Peace. Her idea was influenced by Anna Jarvis,
a young Appalachian homemaker who had attempted starting in 1858
to improve sanitation through what she called Mothers' Work Days.
Anna Jarvis' daughter, also named Anna Jarvis, would of course have
known of her mother's work, and the work of Julia Ward Howe. Much
later, when her mother died, this second Anna Jarvis started her
own crusade to found a memorial day for women. The first such Mother's
Day was celebrated in West Virginia in 1907 in the church where
the elder Anna Jarvis had taught Sunday School. Finally the ...
The Mother in Buddhism Throughout the world, the role of
the mother is given special prominence one day each year. What is
significant is that it is a day when we take time to show our appreciation
for someone who is very special in our lives. The Buddha did not
have the opportunity of knowing his own mother, Mahamaya, for she
died a week after giving birth to him. The maternal care came instead
from Mahaypajapati, his mother's sister. Buddhism has some very
significant things to say about the mother in that she embodies
human qualities of the highest order - selflessness, giving and
devotion to others. The mother carries us in her own body for nine
months, gives birth (and the pain that that entails) and spends
the rest of her life caring for us. Even in her old age, the mother
never ceases to think about her children. One is to contemplate
on the kindness and care of one's mother in detail, and to assimilate
this quality into one's own mindset.

Mary is the Mother of Jesus, we are His brothers and sisters,
so Mary is our Mother as well. Mary is the true "Mother of the living",
the Mother of all who possess eternal life in Christ, her Son. We
also find biblical basis for this belief in John 19:25-27: Now there
stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister,
Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore
saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he
saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! "But plainly (Mary)
is, in spirit, Mother of us who are His members, because by love
she has cooperated so that the faithful, who are the members of
that Head might be born in the Church. It means that, because she
is the Mother of Christ Who is the Head of the Church, she is also
the spiritual Mother of all the members of His Body. In another
sense, she is the Mother of the Church, for as the Mother of Christ
the Head she is also Mother of all the members of the Church; ...

While many people might assume that Mother's Day is a holiday
invented by the fine folks at Hallmark, it's not so. The earliest
Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations
of ancient Greece, honoring Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. In more
recent times, relatively speaking -- England in the 1600s--the celebration
was expanded to include all mothers with "Mothering Sunday" being
celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading
up to Easter). Besides attending church services in honor of the
Virgin Mary, children returned home from the cities with gifts,
flowers, and special Mothering Day cakes that were important parts
of the celebration. Mother's Day festivities in the United States
date back to 1872 when Julia Ward Howe (her other claim to fame
was writing the lyrics for the "Battle Hymn of the Republic") suggested
the day be dedicated to peace. Ms. Jarvis persuaded her mother's
church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate ...
"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed
me. "My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. The memory
of my mother and her teachings were, after all, the only capital
I had to start life with, and on that capital I have made my way."
-- Andrew Jackson "The most important thing a father can do for
his children is to love their mother." --Author Unknown "In all
my efforts to learn to read, my mother shared fully my ambition
and sympathized with me and aided me in every way she could. BABE
RUTH'S MOTHER: "Babe, how many times have I told you to quit playing
ball in the house! MICHELANGELO'S MOTHER: "Mike, can't you paint
on walls like other children? NAPOLEON'S MOTHER: "All right, Napoleon.
CUSTER'S MOTHER: "Now, George, remember what I told you - don't
go biting off more than you can chew!"
A mother is one of God's most special creatures. Although
the mother has never seen or held her child, she loves him deeply.
When it is time for the child to pass from his mother's deepest
and warmest protection, it is an agonizing experience for the mother.
Once the child is born the mother loves and nurtures him a new way,
and she shares him now in a special way with his father. Watching
the process of conversion for hundreds of souls has given me a great
appreciation for how Holy Mother Church truly is the mother of us
all. During this period, although the developing child has not yet
been born through baptism, Mother Church deeply loves the child.
Holy Mother Church loves this child as surely as a natural mother
loves the child who comes from her own womb. That is tantamount
to extracting a newly formed zygote from its mother's womb and expecting
it to live independently of its mother's body. If we cannot definitively
prove that the God-man did not leave us orphans, that ...
