A loving, soft-spoken woman, Shmi Skywalker was determined
to provide a better future for her only son, Anakin, than their
lives as slaves could possibly offer. She knew her son was special
-- despite their hardship, Anakin was selfless, kind and gifted.

Mother's Day, in one form or another, has been around a long
time. As they returned home, they often took cakes or little gifts
to their mothers. To this day, Mother's Day in the United Kingdom
is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. It was in 1872 that
Julia Ward Howe (author of The Battle Hymn of the Republic) suggested

Here is a great Mother's Day gift that my daughter's kindergarten
class made for all the moms last year. I take a small cheap whisk
and have the kids fill it with the Hershey's Hugs & Kisses and
then wrap cellophane around it with a bow and attach a tag that
says "Whisking you a Happy Mother's Day full of Hugs & Kisses"
And then I let the kids draw a picture on the back. The best Mother's

MOTHERS and grandmothers the world over can feel vindicated
today after their advice to "wrap up warm or you'll catch a cold"
was backed by scientific research. For years the theory that chilling
the surface of the body, through wet clothes, feet and hair, can
lead to illness has been dismissed as an old wives' tale with no
scientific basis. Now researchers from the Common Cold Centre at
Cardiff University appear to have shown that being chilly really
can cause a cold to develop. Ron Eccles and Claire Johnson recruited
180 volunteers to take part in their five-day study during the city's
common cold season. Half of the participants immersed their feet
in bowls of ice-cold water for 20 minutes. The others sat with their
feet in empty bowls. Over the next few days, almost a third of the
chilled volunteers developed cold symptoms, compared with fewer
than one in ten in the control group. "Mothers can now be confident
in their advice to children to wrap up well in winter." ...
Mother's Day has been a national holiday since 1911 and is

heaven now, I still love my mother so. And the mothers who took
those babies and gave them homes and all their love. For all the
