A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy
and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity;
when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us; when
troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor
by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness,
and cause peace to return to our hearts.--Washington Irving Mother
is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children. --
William Makepeace Thackeray The mother-child relationship is paradoxical
and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the
mother's side, yet this very love must help the child grow away
from the mother, and to become fully independent.--Erich Fromm "My
mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. "By and large, mothers
and housewives are the only workers who do not have regular time
off. But the mother's yearning, that completest type of the life
in another life which is the essence of ...

Mother Cabrini's love for the poverty stricken, homeless,
and uneducated led her to an intensely occupied life which allowed
her to travel all over the world. However, in every situation, Francis
Xavier Cabrini followed the Lord's itinerary for her and learned
through strict obedience how to purify her own soul with the love
of Jesus. Her body was laid to rest forever under the alter in the
Chapel at Mother Cabrini High School. Born into a poor family and
the youngest of thirteen children where only four, including herself,
survived, was enriched with the Catholic faith and a devout love
in God. Even the day of her birth a mysterious event occurred. One
of the most extraordinary events of Frances Cabrini's life was the
day she received confirmation. The active, selfless, courageous,
loving and obedient Mother Cabrini that was sainted and canonized
for all of her good work and deeds. One account from a still living
nun by the name of Sister ...
Every year on the second Sunday in May, we honor moms across
the world in celebrating Mother's Day. Mother's Day is not just
a cool holiday for moms to relax, it is also a great opportunity
for moms and daughters to take time out of their busy schedules
and spend time together. Read on to see how Mother's Day started
and then grew into a worldwide celebration. Mother's Day began in
ancient Greece to honor Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. On Mothering
Sunday, the servants were encouraged to return home and spend the
day with their mothers. In 1872, Julia Ward Howe, who also wrote
the words to the Battle Hymn of the Republic, proposed Mother's
Day in the United States as a day dedicated to peace. Ms. Jarvis
and her supporters wrote to ministers, businessmen, and politicians
in support of instituting a national Mother's Day. Their efforts
succeeded; by 1911, Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every
State. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson announced Mother's Day
was an ...
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush nominated veteran judge
Samuel Alito for the Supreme Court Monday, seeking to shift the
judiciary to the right and mollify conservatives who derailed his
previous pick. Ready-to-rumble Democrats said Alito may curb abortion
rights and be "too radical for the American people." Drawing an
unspoken contrast to failed nominee Harriet Miers, Bush declared
that the appeals court judge "has more prior judicial experience
than any Supreme Court nominee in more than 70 years." Abortion
emerged as a potential fault line. Democrats pointed to Alito's
rulings that sought to restrict a woman's right to abortion. Senate
Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, a Republican who supports
abortion rights, said that Alito's views on the hot-button issue
"will be among one of the first items Judge Alito and I will discuss."
Alito, 55, newly installed Chief Justice John Roberts, 50, and the
more than 200 other federal judges Bush has pushed through the Senate

Mother's Day is a holiday celebrated in many countries around
the world, but not all nations celebrate on the same day. In the
United States, Mother's Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday
in May. A Brief History of Mother's Day The earliest celebration
honoring mothers dates back to the annual spring festival of ancient
Greece dedicated to Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. Much like our
current Mother's Day tradition of breakfast in bed! Servants would
have the day off and were encouraged to return home and spend the
day with their mothers. The tradition of Mothering Sunday was discontinued
until 1872 when Julia Ward Howe (1819-1910), the author of the lyrics
to the Battle Hymn of the Republic, organized a day for mothers
dedicated to peace. In 1907, Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948), a Philadelphia
schoolteacher, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's
Day in honor of her mother, Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis. On May 10,
1908, the third anniversary of the death of ...
Mother Teresa Mother Teresa Do not think that love, in order
to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. Everytime you smile at someone,
it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there
can be no more hurt, only more love. Bring love into your home for
this is where our love for each other must start. Love begins at
home, and it is not how much we do... but how much love we put in
that action. Love begins by taking care of the closest ones - the
ones at home. The success of love is in the loving - it is not in
the result of loving.

Children love nursery rhymes: they are delighted by mastering
the familiar rhymes, many of which have been set to simple melodies.
Nursery rhymes can be used to teach important information in an
entertaining way: Each nursery rhyme is a little story unto itself.
In many ways they function as simple parables. Traditionally, nursery
rhymes have been a vehicle for children to safely explore age appropriate
questions about identity and their emotions. Many of these rhymes
help children to confront their fears about losing things, getting
in trouble or getting hurt. Numerous collections feature charming
illustrations full of descriptive detail which explore and expand
the rhyme's theme in a comforting and entertaining way. There are
many ways to use Mother Goose rhymes in the curriculum. For more

Arise, then, women of this day! Arise all women who have
hearts, whether your baptism be that of water or of fears! Say firmly:
"We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies,
"Our husbands shall not come to us reeking with carnage, for caresses
and applause. "Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all
that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy, and patience.
"We women of one country will be too tender of those of another
country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs." As men
have often forsaken the plow and the anvil at the summons of war,
let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and
earnest day of counsel. The question forced itself upon me, "Why
do not the mothers of mankind interfere in these matters, to prevent
the waste of that human life of which they alone bear and know the
cost?" The little document which I drew up in the heat of my enthusiasms
implored woman, all the world over, to awake ...
Rarely has a First Lady been greeted by the American people
and the press with the approbation and warmth accorded to Barbara
Pierce Bush. Perhaps this is prompted by the image she calls "everybody's
grandmother." People are comfortable with her white hair, her warm,
relaxed manner, and her keen wit. With characteristic directness,
she says people like her because they know "I'm fair and I like
children and I adore my husband." Barbara was born in 1925 to Pauline
and Marvin Pierce, who later became president of McCall Corporation.
She went to boarding school at Ashley Hall in South Carolina, and
it was at a dance during Christmas vacation when she was only 16
that she met George Bush, a senior at Phillips Academy in Andover,
Massachusetts. They became engaged a year and a half later, just
before he went off to war as a Navy torpedo bomber pilot. By the
time George returned on leave, Barbara had dropped out of Smith
College. She says, "Because of Robin, George and I ...
At the age of twelve, she felt strongly the call of God.
She knew she had to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ.
At the age of eighteen she left her parental home in Skopje and
joined the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns with missions
in India. After a few months' training in Dublin she was sent to
India, where on May 24, 1931, she took her initial vows as a nun.
From 1931 to 1948 Mother Teresa taught at St. Mary's High School
in Calcutta, but the suffering and poverty she glimpsed outside
the convent walls made such a deep impression on her that in 1948
she received permission from her superiors to leave the convent
school and devote herself to working among the poorest of the poor
in the slums of Calcutta. On October 7, 1950, Mother Teresa received
permission from the Holy See to start her own order, "The Missionaries
of Charity", whose primary task was to love and care for those persons
nobody was prepared to look after. The order also has houses in
